The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award in a year...
Published: 12 Oct 2017
Our latest global statistics are out and you can find the details in a nutshell here.
We are delighted to confirm that the Award continues to grow each year with more than 1.3 million young people taking part in 2016. Within this, the gender split remains relatively balanced with 49% of male participants vs. 51% female participants. Each day over 1,800 young people start their Award journey and in 2016, 340,000 young people received an Award at either Bronze, Silver or Gold level.
We are also pleased to report that great projects happening within National Award Operators around the world, have helped more than 140,000 participants from an at risk or marginalised background get involved with the Award.
Finally, as ever we are immensely thankful to the 200,000+ volunteers who support young people to complete their Award and discover that they are capable of more than they ever thought possible. These volunteers give up their time in a huge variety of roles ranging from Award Leaders, Supervisors and Assessors or simply to drive the mini-bus. In whatever capacity they have helped, we are indebted to them.
