'Leadership for Girls Forum' cements Guiding relationship in Asia Pacific
3 March 2008A recent forum on Leadership for Girls organised by the Award in Singapore to commemorate World Thinking Day 2008 highlighted the strong relationship between Guiding and the Award in the region.
The National Youth Achievement Award Council organised the special event on 22nd February, which was preceded by the Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) Asia Pacific Office and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award International Association (IAA) Asia Pacific Region. World Thinking Day is the Guiding movement’s annual commemoration of the joint birthday of their founders, Lord and Lady Baden-Powell.
The Guest-of-Honour for the signing ceremony was Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Singapore’s Minister of State for Finance and Transport. The forum which followed, chaired by Melissa Arantani Kwee of the Halogen Foundation, an Award holder herself, featured distinguished women from the corporate, government and youth sectors. They were invited to speak on leadership skills to an audience of over four hundred girls and young women.
The events showcased the WAGGGS and IAA joint commitment to developing and nurturing outstanding young females worldwide through partnership. For more information please visit www.nyaa.org/projects.aspx.
