Israel Youth Award unveils Mosaic of Peace
19 November 2007As part of their celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Award Programme, the Israel Youth Award unveiled a 'Mosaic of Peace' in Haifa on 6th September. In a special ceremony attended by guests including HRH The Earl of Wessex, the Minister of Education Prof. Yuli Tamir and the Mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav , the last stone was inserted into the mosaic.
The mosaic was made by young Israelis of a variety of religious and ethnic backgrounds, and was designed to symbolise the ethnic diversity of the Award in Israel. "The advantage that the Programme brings in Israel is that it is multicultural and strengthens links between Arabs and Jews, Christians, Bedouin and Druze; all of them as a mosaic and one human fabric," said Aviva Ben Raphael, the Israeli Award's national director: "The Award provides direction for young people and a way of life at a time when direction is needed."
The ceremony formed part of a three-day visit by HRH to Israel, during which he also presented Gold Awards to participants of the Israel Youth Award. The Award in Israel has been running since 1995. To find out more visit www.iya.co.il.
